Three steps
Edit a PDFin about a minute.
- Select your PDF, or drop it onto the page. It opens in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
- Pick a tool and click the page: type text, draw or sign, highlight, white-out, or place an image.
- Click Download PDF. The edited file saves straight to your device, with no account and no watermark.
What you can change
Everything happenson this page.
A free online PDF editor with no app to install and no separate editor window. Pick a tool, click the page, download the result.
- Add or replace textType anywhere on the page. Cover old wording with White-out and type over it.
- Draw and signFreehand with a mouse, trackpad, finger or stylus — this is the signature tool too.
- HighlightMark text without hiding it. The same multiply blend you see is what gets saved.
- Images and logosDrop in a PNG or JPG, then move and resize it. Embedded, not linked.
About editing text that is already there
A PDF stores text as positioned glyphs rather than editable paragraphs, so changing existing wording means covering it and typing the replacement on top. That is how every browser-based editor works, ours included — we would rather say so than imply otherwise. If you need to rewrite whole pages and let the layout reflow, convert the PDF to Word, edit there, and convert it back.
Longer documents
Every page is editable, and pages are rendered as you scroll so a long file does not stall the tab. To reorder, rotate or delete pages, a dedicated page tool is faster than the editor.
The question everybody asks
Is it really free?
Yes, and it is worth being precise, because most answers to this question are not. No account. No trial. No watermark on the output. No cap on file size or how many files you edit. No payment step between you and the download button.
It is free partly because it is cheap to run: your PDF is opened and edited by your own browser, so there is no upload, no server doing the work and no storage to pay for. That is also why the privacy answer is short — the file never leaves your device, so there is nothing for us to keep, leak, or promise to delete.
FAQ
Questions peopleactually ask.
Is there a completely free PDF editor?
Yes — this one, with no catch. There is no account to create, no watermark on the output, no cap on file size or number of files, and no payment step between you and the download button. Free here means free at the point you actually need it: saving your work.
Can I edit a PDF without Adobe?
Yes. You do not need Adobe Acrobat or any installed software. This online PDF editor runs in Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox, on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. Open the page, choose your PDF, make the changes and download the result.
How do I edit existing text in a PDF?
A PDF stores text as positioned glyphs rather than editable paragraphs, so changing wording means covering the old text with the White-out tool and typing the replacement on top. That is how every browser-based editor does it. If you need to rewrite whole pages and reflow the layout, convert the PDF to Word, edit there, and convert it back.
What is the easiest way to edit a PDF?
Open it in a browser. Drop the file onto this page, click where you want a change, type or draw, then download. Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for, and no file sitting on somebody else’s server afterwards. For structural changes such as reordering or deleting pages, a dedicated page tool is faster.
Why is my PDF not editable?
Usually one of three reasons: it is a scan, so the page is an image with no text layer; it carries an owner password that restricts editing; or your viewer is simply read-only. This editor draws a new layer on top of the page, so scans and read-only files both work. A file protected by a password needs that password removed first.
Is putting a black box over text the same as redacting it?
No, and the difference matters. A black or white box hides text visually, but the original characters remain in the file and can be copied out or recovered by anyone who looks. Treat White-out as tidying up, not as redaction. For genuinely sensitive information, remove the text before it is turned into a PDF.
Can I write on a PDF for free?
Yes. Use the Text tool to type anywhere on the page, or the Draw tool to write by hand with a mouse, trackpad, finger or stylus. Both are unlimited and free, and what you add is written into the PDF itself rather than saved as a separate comment.
Can I edit a PDF on my phone?
Yes. The editor works with touch, and drawing with a finger makes signing on a phone straightforward. Very large documents are slower on a phone than on a laptop, because the processing happens on your own device rather than on a server.
Does Chrome have a built-in PDF editor?
Chrome’s built-in viewer can fill some form fields and leave basic annotations, but it cannot add free text anywhere on the page, insert an image, or place a drawn signature. This page adds all of that with no extension to install, and behaves the same in Edge, Firefox and Safari.
Is there a file size or page limit?
None that we impose. Because the work happens inside your browser instead of on our servers, the practical ceiling is your device’s memory rather than our pricing tier — a few hundred pages is comfortable on a laptop. There is no daily limit, no queue, and no waiting.
